Non-apple apps fail

Hi,

I'm running OSX 10.2 and when ever I run an application that isn't made by Apple it fails and gives this error.....

Application Launch Failure

The application "Word" ( or "Acrobat Reader" or whatever you like that isn't made by Apple) could not be launched because of a shared library error: "D<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv><CarbonSound><SetSoundOutputInfo>"

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks.

How about more specifics as to the actual programs that aren't working.... For example is TextEdit working? Or do you mean just the iApps?

Repair permissions for starters, because it sounds like some shared resources are not being accessed.

You haven't moved / deleted anything recently have you?

Notice this is a shared library failure that is part of the Micsosoft Office installation, at least according to the path you quoted. This is a not uncommon error with Microsoft applications although I have not seen it with Adobe apps. When it happened to me, I fixed the error by removing and reinstalling Microsoft Office along with reapplying all the Office updates through 10.1.5.
