Non * yp shadow password flag

I work in college lab and we are trying to get panther to auth against our NIS server. We have it talking fine (we can finger ppl, and su to them from root) but there is a problem. For security reasons, our department doesn't use '*' in the password feild to designate that it is a shadow password, instead we use ##userid, but because of this, panthers yp doesnt know to try and get a shadow passord.

Does anybody know how to force it to always get shadow passwords, or to recognize that as the shadow password flag?

thanks

Hmmm... This might actually be a better post for the X11 and Unix board, especially if this hasn't changed (much) since Jag. I'd assume that Panther's NIS client is nearly the same as the one in FreeBSD 4.2 or 4.3, however... Though I'd probably be wrong =)
