You should know that you cannot write to an NTFS-formatted disk from MacOS X or any other non-Microsoft OS. MacOS X can only read NT disks.

Here is the problem. Microsoft thinks they are the end all of ALL computers so they made a proprietary disk system, NTFS. Now you want your Mac to bend to the closed Windows format. Well Apple released their disk format and a third party developer Mediafour created MacDrive so Windows could read/write to Mac formatted hard drives.

So if you want to use this drive for Windows & Mac, format it for Mac OS Extended and load MacDrive(on Windows XP) and live with less disk sharing headaches.

You should reformat the drive, it looks like something is wrong with it. HFS is the best format for Mac use, FAT32 for Mac-PC sharing.
