Okay, I know that 10.3.5 does not support it natively and all, and I have installed Patch burn II so the iApps will work, and I have toast 6.0.7 which sees it fine. The System Profiler recognizes it--so any idea why if I put in a blank disc into the drive, it will not mount on the Finder desktop, but if I put in either a manufactured one or a self made one that already had data on it-it does?

Open System Preferences, and under "CDs & DVDs", make sure "When you insert a bland DVD" is set to "Ask what to do" or "Open Finder."

Also are you inserting blank DVD-R discs, or DVD+R discs? I don't think Finder/iApps work with DVD+R discs, you have to use toast for those.

Actually, the Finder is the one Apple application that supports both DVD-R and DVD+R formats. The iApps don't work with them, but the Finder most definitely does!

Set those preferences and now I get "This disc could not be used because the disk drive is not supported." and it spits it back out at me.

I know I can burn it all in Toast 6.0.7 and have fixed the iApps, but I sure wish I could get Finder to see it.

I know it doesn't help much, but I'm guessing 10.3.6 will add support for it, so the next round of Mac's can use this drive.
