Bought this iMAC in April. Up until last week everything was running fine. Now the numbers 0, .,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 on the number pad are inoperatvie. Strange thing the enter, +, -, *, /, and = work just fine. I tried using the numbers with various word processing programs with no luck. I even took the keyboard down to the local Apple store (Capitol MAC) and one of the salesmen put the keyboard through its paces and it worked just fine:mad: I went into Preferences/Keyboard but nothing obvious wrong. The technician at Capitol MAC thinks it is software related.

since it's software related, you might want to start at the base and reinstall mac os x. thats all I can think of right now
 
o.k. I think I will wait till "Jaguar" is released and I can afford to buy it. I can at least, for now, use the numbers on the main board above the "qwerty" row. Thanks for your suggestion.:) :cool: :D ;)
 
Is this the Pro keyboard or the little one? Did you try using Number lock? I found out the keyboard on my honey's machine (not a Mac- :( needs num lock on in order for the numberpad to work. Strange, but it is worth a shot.
 
Cheryl: Yes, I just tried using the numlock and the same effect - the numbers do not work but the enter +-*/= do work. I thank you for your suggestion. I may have to go back and reload OS X or wait for Jaguar (that is, when I can afford it)

another sugestion is switching keyboard layouts
Sys Prefs>International>Keyboard Menu> and put a check in Australian

they have the exact same keybord lay out as us so it won't matter

to use it click on the american flag and scroll down to the Australian flag

maybe if it is a software problem this will fix it till 10.2
 
Its mouse buttons in universal access. go into system preffs then into universal access and turn off mouse keys and your numbers will work agian!
 
After some more weird happenings with my computer and a kernel panic I decided to reformat the hard drive and install OS X first. I then loaded all the system files up to OS 10.1.5 and then I loaded 9.2 and 9.2.1 Since then I have had no problems and the numberpad works just fine.
