Odd Question Under Tiger

When I open some apps, then try to select an image file, Iget location on left pane of finder window.
The files I want to access are grayed out and unselectable on the right pane? How can I gain access wile still in the application. Many thanks to anyone who knows the answer. I am a long time mac user though not super technical

Generally speaking, if the file is greyed out then it is of a format that is not supported by that application. For example, if you were in PhotoShop and you went to open a file, you'd find things like Word documents or text files would be greyed out.

That said, this could also happen if something has gone wrong with the config files in that application.

So which apps are affected, and for what types of files?

If you know that a certain app can open files even if the app thinks it can't, you can drag the files to the app's icon in the Dock while holding down the Command (Apple) and Option (Alt) key.

Thanks for the input. Come to think of it the grayed files may have been Classic
files. I guess moving them around might help. Thanks. Leighla

Moving them around won't do much good. Why should it... Try my tip above...?
