Be aware those of you who have office x. When you use the service pack make sure you have the same serial you used when you first installed it. It wants the same serial number you entered when you first installed it, if not, it will not pass the update and your office applications will not open.

Guess how I know this?

This is not about the 'same' serial number. You've used a pirated version of Office v. X and MS took out some 'shared' serial numbers with the SR 1 update. If you have bought Office, your serial (which, of course, you still have) will work. If not, you need a new serial number, while actually - of course - you need to buy the package.

Btw. -> the German updater of SR 1 is out, too. Some users are complaining that while the updater works just fine, Word just isn't updated and won't run afterwards (because it expects older versions of Office components, I guess).
 
Well, it seems to work fine for me; did not even ask for the serial once I restarted Word and friends.

Sadly, anti-aliased text is very hard on my eyes--I am using a laptop and am myopic as well. I guess I will have to start increasing the magnification, which will simply eat away my screen estate.
