office x copy protection - is there a hack??

I installed office x on my and my wife's computer. We're both connected to a dsl router. We can't both run office applications at the same time because MS has implemented a copy protection scheme that checks if there are other copies on the LAN. I can't believe it. Sure, the license is for ONE machine, but there must be a little bit of flexibility too. I mean, now we have to buy another copy for $500????!!! We both use both machines too.

Anyway, is there some way, some BRILLIANT solution, for stopping the initial check - besides disconnecting from the LAN temporarily?

Thanks!

Hold on, you'll probably get flamed for simply using the word 'hack.'

Yeah there is a way to fix this, head over to read this thread. Read the entire thing, there is a command you can run in Terminal (I think...) that will block the port Microsoft uses to check for other copies of Office running on the same LAN.

Thanks - that works splendidly! I'm not against copyright protection but I feel this is pushing it too far. I feel it will only go downhill from here...

Thanks again.
