Im typing a letter, word x, using the "times" font..

even though I put spaces between words, on the screen, it looks like I did NOT include a space between words!

is there something I can do about this? its very misleading to see....

first, ask for the "typo marks", the "¶" button. you will have the gray dot between each word instead of spaces.
If it's not sufficient, you need to work with a biggest layout. Beware of your eyes !
 
in all likelihood, it is a optical illusion caused by using a font that appears to kern incorrectly at the screen size, zoom amount or point size you are using.

rezba is pretty much right on this one.

not sure what zoom is or how to change..

odd... I tried it today, same size, same font... looks fine this time. ???

There should be something in the main toolbar that is a drop-down menu and has a percentile value in it. Click it, and go to 100%. For future reference, it's called the zoom menu.
