Oktoberfest?

HA! HA! HA!
Anyone going to Munich? Anyone been to Munich? I 've been there before but not for Oktoberfest. But have my plane ticket already and the trip will almost be free, just food and beer.

My g/f has to go to Munich for business so I redeemed some frequent flyer miles and got my plane ticket already, then we'll stay at her hotel room, which her company will pay for.
Only downside is it seems more of the beer halls are already filled up.
Still, it'll be good to hear others' experiences.

I was in München (;)) for few times by now (it's 400km away from my place), but never during the Oktoberfest. Yeah, sounds like a sin but september and october are mostly very busy months for me. However, it seems to be spectacular. It's good you have hotel rooms reserved. Heard it's terrible to find a stay for a decent price in München, especially during the Oktoberfest..
But I am sure you will enjoy the time. Make sure to plan a trip to the Chiemsee. A great place to chill out and take a boat trip.

I where in Munich 3 weeks ago, sorry to say that work prevents me to go to the fest.

It's always hard to get a place in one of the beer halls, the tickets gets sold out quick. The biggest tent, www.hofbraeuhaus.com, is already fully booked, all 9918 places for 16 days.
But Theresienwiese is a big area, you can probably cram yourself in someplace.

Check http://www.hb-festzelt.de/en/anreise.html for how to get there and avoid the worst caos.

I went from Saarbrücken to München for Oktoberfest two years ago. No plan, just a bookbag with some clothes. There was a group of us. We managed to find some nice poeple with some places free at their table to sit at, and drank it up with them and ate sauerkraut. The next day we did the same. Lots of fun. Too much beer.

[EDIT]Sorry, we were at the Löwenbräu House both days.[/EDIT]

Danke for the link, gumse.
Last year, I spent a week in Munich, mostly wandering around in the afternoons, so I know how to get around using the U and S pretty well.
She works for Allianz, so I asked her to check with a friend who works there to see if there's any corporate seats available, though I doubt that's likely, considering the crush for tickets.

kitchener, ontario, canada has the second biggest octoberfest celebration in the world so if you're in the us or canada its much closer. kitchener metro is about 500,000 people and octoberfest is held in hundreds of places all over the city. kitcheners name before ww1 was berlin. very high concentration of germans there.
