I've seen a lot of bickering and posts about what the differences are between the G3, G4, G5, Power4, P4 and which is faster at what... etc etc etc - the following is a great article that goes over each (stressing the PPC970) that isn't too technical and is actually fun to read - enjoy... sorry if this is old news - john.
