Old news on AOL 10.3.7 Welcome Screen

I have a PowerMac G5 with OS 10.3.9 and AOL 10.3.7, revision 4136.310. I had to have my hard drive replaced. Since it was, when the welcome screen on AOL comes up, it is old news, with some dollar bills showing. It says that my version of AOL won't come up with the new news, so to click on www.aol.com; however when I do, the new screen starts to come up, then AOL quits. Before, I could do that and it worked. I called AOL and they just said it wouldn't work, but it did previously. The new news screen will come up if I go through Safari, but I don't like the way e-mails are on it. Any ideas? If you have any ideas, please make them simple; I am a retired teacher who did not grow up knowing about computers! Thank you.

1. Dump AOL :)
2. What is your machine: model, processor, HD, RAM--goeth to the apple sign, click, look at "About This Mac" and clicketh "More Info" It may be that the simplest solution is to update your OS.
3. Consider getting one of Pogue's books in the Missing Manual Series--for 10.3 and 10.4 they are megacheap on Amazon since everyone is buying 10.5 or waiting for 10.6. This will help you get the most out of your Mac.
4. Buy low sell high.
5. Go Red Sox!

Go to Home>Library>Preferences and trash the AOL preference file. It should be named com.aol.plist or similiar. Empty the trash, then open AOL and give it a try.
