Older G4 slower than ever.

Perhaps this machine's just past it's prime, but it seems like over the last couple of months my old G4 has progressively gotten slower. It's now taking forever to open applications. Can't stream even the simplest small videos. Lot's of pinwheel, not much else. I have cleared caches, flashed pram, run Spring Cleaning. no improvement. I always system update when prompted. Has the software moved beyond the capability of this computer? Here's the vitals...

OS X - Version 10.4.11
Machine Name: Power Mac G4
Machine Model: PowerMac3,5
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.0)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 733 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz

Any ideas or help are greatly appreciated.

cheers,
Bruce

That's kind of low. As it is, the hard drive itself is rather small for the latest versions of OS X. You can get a decent hard drive for pretty cheap, but do remember that since it's using ATA-133, you'll be limited to 128 GB on that end. You could get a SATA card for it that's supported under OS X and you can use a SATA drive that won't have that limit.

Yeah because I have a 120 HD and 1.25 gigs of ram in mine and it's a 467 MHz 133 bus and 1.29 cache and she runs man. I just wish that I could upgrade the software.
