We've all seen them by now. Just when you thought that sleazy, obvoxious, intrusive form on internet advertising - the Pop-Up window - had finally bitten the dust with anti-pop ups becoming standard on most browsers. Now comes its more evil, more sneaky cousin - the pop-down window.

When I have finished using Safari and I close the browser window I expect to see nothing but my desktop, not a crappy online casino advertisement hiding underneith!!!

I can't seem to locate a pop-down blocker (although I have found many sites perpetuating this practice with JavaScript code. grrrr).

Anyone know of one? This problem is only sure to get worse as time goes on.

I have seen this also on many websites. Also some advertisements as Flash which are translucent and appear over the web page itself, but go away after a few seconds. This is either done with layers on the page or with Java Script.

As of yet, there's no solution for this problem in all web browsers. Hopefully this gets fixed in Firefox 2.

Download PithHelmet. Really, EVERY Safari user should get PithHelmet. NOW! A new version was recently released which has some aggressive new popunder filters. SO aggressive that they might break some sites, but PithHelmet allows you to change its rules on a site-by-site basis, so if you find it breaks, say, Gmail (I think it does), just disable it for that site.

If not for PithHelmet, I'd probably have all but given up on the web a long time ago...
