On the subject of sound recording in X

I had an idea.

I was thinking that perhaps Apple didn't include a proprietary (iSound :p) sound recording software in OS X to allow software developers to come up with ones themselves.

Economically it benefits Apple in the following ways:
- Boosts X software development, because you know someone will make one, and may have.
- Allows big sound engines to be written by experienced engineers in that field, and take devlopment load off Apple (cheaper for them and you end up with better software).

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I think it wasn't so much an oversight on the part of Apple as it was a deliberate omission.

Thoughts?

only that i have figured apple has left lots of things to other folks on purpose. some of thisis good and we benefit in similar ways to the ones you describe. a few have been a pain because everybody else is also too lazy to do the work and so we do without.

Don't forget Peak, Deck and soon CuBase SX as well as Apple's own Final Cut to name a few. Oh, and Logic now owned by Apple, so you know that will be sweet.

Yeah that was the obvious negative that we've got to deal with :( hehe
