Missing Intelligence
Anyone else notice the vast majority of "positive" reviews for Windows XP continue to stress how much less it sucks compared to Windows 9x? Who would have thought you could actually base a media campaign on attacking your own product and get away with it. The most common quote I've seen so far is "it doesn't crash all the time like previous versions."

In fact, this isn't the first time M$ has done this... it's becoming a tradition, although more obvious with the release of Windows XP.

I can't wait for Windows XP 2: "It doesn't look as stupid as Windows XP." And, the holy grail of the Windows Operating System: "I-can't-believe-it's-not-a-Mac." Although this one is still completely unobtainable.

Cheers,
Dak

OK, I just found this right after posting the previous article... I just have to post it:

CNN Review of Windows XP:
"The system promises fewer computer crashes and will allow users to delete data from their hard drive."

I'm so impressed.

Cheers,
Dak

oooooooooo:D
Shinyyyyyyyyy...where can I get mine :p lol
(XP suks)

Anyway, I have heard many users say that "XP is a vast imrovement on 98 or ME which just sucks"... lol :p what a bunch of idiots, that crowd!

Anyone else remember the "Imagine That" magazine ads that were out whet win95 was released? A Trash can that you can use to throw away your stuff, and get it back before it's gone forever. Imagine that.

Now you don't have to drop to DOS to run applications. Imagine that.

with XP they aren't 11 years behind, but they are still behind, and doing things with a lot less grace, refinement, and intuition tham Apple is doing them, first.

I admit Windows is usable. I just happen to hate everything about it. Now it crashes less, that's good. It needs faster hardware, that's bad.

My little brother's a big computer wizz and I talked to him last week .. I guess he had already installed the XP GM or whatever. He thinks it's pretty good, he makes fun of me and stuff because I don't know anything about computer compaired to him, and it's only understandable that I would 'get a little kid's computer.'

Anyhow, I was suprised when he started talking seriously about it:

"XP is alright, it's like a fancy 2000. actually, it seems like they [microsoft] tried to make it as easy and stuff and your mac osx."

That's actually a complement from him .. basically saying that XP is trying to be as complete as OS X .. but they couldn't quite do it.

Well since i have windows XP and i have seen a few blue screens until now(it is the final release) i say to microsoft: Next release make yr freezzzzzzzz screen pink to suit the kindergarden style of XP. If you get it first thing you should do is change the enviroment to that of the old windows!!!!

Does anyone remember the ad that I believe Apple put out after Windows 95 came out? It said something like "C:\ongratulations, Windows".

There was another one where some guy was about to give a presentation, and his computer crashed. Everyone starts shouting out suggestions, and finally someone yells out, "Buy a Macintosh". Brings tears to my eyes, just thinking about it.

Try to get him to do a little computing on your OSX setup. Give him some time on it and see what he thinks of your "little kid computer" compared to his registered, locked in place, regimented, basically prison guard equipped XP dealio.

My three year old thinks that P is the letter that comes after X, too.

So we got the Sesame street video Learning ABC's with Big Bird and he is getting the idea.

I saw where some DOJ dude was "condemning" XP in regard to the secure delete functions built into the system.

Seems, in the past Mr. Child Pornographer would erase all his files just before Mr. Justice turned up and ....sorry, charlie, the data recovery team has a special governmental issue of Norton Recover and ...you're busted!!!!

But now with the eXtra Porno version of windows. the Justice is SOL.... the data is really erased.

A major disservice to Mr. and Mrs. TaxPayer because mucho dinero was involved on getting the Supersoft to crack Microsoft.

There are still people out there that have refused to switch from windows 3.1.

Also, seems the Hackers will benefit too, as now you can jump on one of those raw sockets and do a correct cleanup as you leave.

Okay. The 1995 ads of Apple *were* funny. Windows 95 also conquered the world, don't forget that, while System 7.5.x basically brought Apple into a *big* dilemma, and Apple never released System 8 (Copland) but postponed the development of a new operating system (which we *now* have, although it doesn't yet sport the application software needed to really work with it).

It might be true that it's basically bad ad to say Win XP isn't as bad as Win 98/ME, but it's also true that people (95%) just DON'T CARE!

Let's stick to discussing the features and failures of OS X, shall we? :)

Btw.: The Apple ad said: C:/ONGRATUL.TNS Windows 95 (the / being the wrong way round for Windows, Apple forgot to point out that flaw in Windows...)

A lot of good stuff in this thread. One thing I don't see mentioned often in comparison of mac to the darker-side of computing is; what happens to your 1+ghz peecee when you run anti-virus (a/v) software?
Suddenly, your new p? is slower than the 233,350 or 500mhz p2/3 cpu you upgraded from.
I have set-up and installed several 1.7ghz P4s from Dell (8100's) in a NT4 LAN and when using McAfee or Norton a/v with minimal configs, the PCs runs like molasses. Take the a/v software off and all of a sudden the performance comes back to something like twice the speed of your old computer. With the a/v stuff on, be prepared to wait for many things.
Sometimes, it is good to be a minority. When was the last time you got a virus in your email and it affected your Mac? And hopefully you will never receive a bacteria or white-powder in your snail-mail!
Imagine what you will need in XP to block the many packets your pc will send to M$, let alone the hackers who will invade them with trojans for their next DOS, etc.
