The open/save screens in OSX drive me crazy being similar to the Finder's Columns view. With previous OS, it was so easy to find a file/folder by just tapping the first letter of files' names. I don't know if i'm missing something in a preference somewhere? Or, is there anywork around in OSX that emmulates that easy access to files?
Thank you for your help, Jim W.

You can tap a few keys to jump down to the file, just make sure the file you want to jump to is in the column that is highlighted.

thanks for the reply.
i find that works in finder, but not in open/save dialogue boxes, i just tried it again in an open dialogue window in OSX Word, and it freaks it out, and scoots back in the root.
does it work for you?

Yeah, use your right arrow key to navigate to the next column - otherwise it will jump you back to root. Once the right column is highlighted, you can tap the letter keys to jump down in the list.
