Open With...how??

For the XP users out there, you know what I'm talking about.

How can you choose which application to open a specific file?? Is that possible in OS X?

Also, I have OS X on my machine right now...what do I need to do to have OS 9 as well? Do I need to create another partition, if so, how?

thanks.

Two ways:

A) Control-click on the item and you'll see "Open With" in the resulting menu.

B) Drag and drop the file onto the icon for the app you'd like to open it with.

Choice A is easier, I think.

On your second question, OS9 installs with OSX. No need to partition. When you launch an OS9 app, it runs in "Classic mode" -- on top of OSX. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

on running OS 9 he can run applications in classic and emulate 9 but if it is an older mac then he will be able to boot in 9, all you have to do is open system preferences choose start up disk and select the one that says OS 9 and restart, however if this is a new mac like a 12 or 17PB plus some of the new towers, it is very possible that that is not an option since they only boot in OS X.

To make the Open With, a permanent change to a document you can press from the keyboard Command(Apple)+I and you should see the Get Info window for that document... Read closer at the middle of the window ;)

Also, from the top menu of the Finder, select File then Get Info while you have selected the document you want to apply the Open With... :D

Last, why do you need to install OS 9? The Classic Environment isn't enough?
