Opening up a wireless network to Pcs and laptops

I have an ibook and a G5 and I am trying to allow access to a computer and an inferior laptop. Someone tells me I need to know the WPA key or the WEP key. I have no idea what these are or how to do it. Any ideas what these are and how I change them/access them?

Thanks in advance - a complete beginner!
