As this macslash article (http://www.macslash.com/articles/02/05/07/1525254.shtml) says, open office has successfully been compiled on os x. Currently it only runs under X11, but they are starting work on getting it working with aqua.
I've been trying to download it for about an hour so if anyone has a mirror, I would appreciate it.
Did you see the first comment on macslash? He said that OpenOffice looks like crap. I really can't believe that people criticize so early in development on things like this and Chimera. They say they are going to port it to aqua eventually so what's the problem? Don't get your panties in a ruffle because the very first chance we get to try it is on Xwindows and still looks like Microsoft windows. It will come around eventually.
I hope I don't eat my words when I open the program and it really is unbearable
