Opensource Xbox in the "cards?"

whether or not M$ contracted the Hardware part, they still got the same result they would get if it were inhouse :p -- cheap junk sold at high prices, for maximum profit and bloated upgradeability :p

i'd like to use the XBOX to browse the net somehow... i think it'd be hella cool to get an OS on the HDD and then we could use that as an alternative!

xboc runs on a mod/hybird wince/win2k

and its not cheep junk... try geting a geforce 3, a 10 gig hard drive, some ddr ram, a motherboard, with a pentium 3, a dvd drive, aaand a contorler for 200 dollars.

microsoft is not making money on these things, it cost over 300 dollars to produce and ship each one...

actually, it's more along the lines of over $400 to produce each one...

and from an "internationally recognized technical services company that analyzes the circuitry and physical composition of semiconductors devices and electronic systems for a wide range of applications in intellectual property licensing, patenting and competitive study" they found out that the XBOX operating system is run on a modified version of Windows XP (which uses the Windows 2000 Kernel) that's been changed so it cannot be read by a standard PC IDE interface.

EDIT: just found out that the PS2 has a PCMCIA slot, HDD slot, and USB & FireWire connections! :( but i already have the HDD, so :)

Actually, when Sony reduced the price of the PS2 to $200.00, M$ did the same thing to XBox the next day. M$ is losing $200.00 on the sale of EVERY XBox. It actually costs M$ about $400.00 to make it, so if you want to bankrupt M$, go out and buy MANY XBoxes. The high cost comes from the royalties it owes for being able to play DVD and the similar hardware of a PC. There's a thread here about this topic somewhere on MacOSX.com. Sorry don't have the link and I don't have time to go find it.

XBox runs on a modified version (significanlty reduced size) of the Win2K kernel. I think they removed IE from it.

If M$ can give away $200.00 with the sale of EVERY XBox, it must be made of money.

If you also want to bankrupt yourself, go out and buy many xboxes. :D
