Optical Drive issue

About 3 wks ago i experienced a Kernel Panic on my MacBook Pro (2008). The long and the short of it is, it turned out to be a Video Graphics Card issue and i took it into the apple store to have it repair...in accordance to the following article i found here on MacOS.com :
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

I had ordered a DYI Kit from macsales.com coz first time i took it Apple they said the HardDrive was fried. Since i had already ordered the part by the time i discovered the info detailed in the above Apple Article i decided to go ahead with the upgrade and now i have a portable external drive. (win-win so i thought).

Couple few days ago I went to try and burn a DVD of events from over the holidays... slipped a blank disc into the slot load... it was sucked in, I hear the usual humming and chumming. Disc starts to spin then it stops and it is spat out. I inserted a few different discs...thought maybe i just had a faulty on... the same thing happened. I can't even play DVD's of video projects i had burned a few months before on the same burner. Figured let me try watch a movie (original store bought DVD)... the first 1 i tried did the same thing.
The funny part is i tried a few other DVD's (including a few bootleg Manga movies), which load and play with out a hitch. so some disc will load and play others will not. Blank disc's jus get spat out.
I was able to format a new HardDrive, install OSX and migrate may data using this very same Optical Drive.

Help!!

Try using a DVD drive cleaning disk, available at any office supply store, or electronics retailer...
The DVD burners don't last forever, so could be erratic now, and it's ready to be replaced.
_Probably_ just a coincidence that you had other repairs, but it wouldn't hurt to have this checked at your local Apple shop.
