OS 10.4 boot problem

Hello everyone ...

I have benefited from your posts in the past and now I have a specific problem ...

I have a Mirrored door G4 dual processor. We had a power failure over the weekend and when I attempted to boot my computer this morning it gives me a startup bong and attempts to go into my startup screen. After several minutes the only thing visible is the magnigying glass in the upper right hand corner.

I can't get my CD drives to open in order to insert Disk Warrior to diagnose my computer. Any ideas on how to open?

I was able to reboot once onto another drive (by swapping cables on the motherboard) to the drive running OS 10.3 and ran disk utilities on the OS 10.4 drive ... no errors. When I reset the startup drive to the 10.4 system ... same hangup I described above.

I have 3 internal drives connected as well as the 2 mirrorred drives.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Try resetting the PMU or CUDA, forget which on that model. It's a small button close to the clock battery on the Logic Board. Disconnect power, push the button ONLY ONCE, wait a few minutes and try starting.

Bob ...

Thanks for the advise. I found the PMU button ... still the same problem after restarting.

I am not familiar enough with the OS 10.4 system ... can I reintall the system software without affecting all the programs that I have installed?

Thanks again for your help.

You should be able to open the cd/dvd tray by holding down your mouse button when the computer is booting.
