Hi, a while ago a friend gave me the pre release of 10.4. It has worked fine, but I am now having trouble downloading missing sync which requires 10.4.7 or later. Is there any way to get out of the pre release and update my computer?
Thanks

Hi, thanks for the quick response, but I got the message that I have been getting for many applications. When I am downloading and i get to "select destination" there is a red exclamation mark and under it says I cant install because my computer does not meet the requirements. I have a powerbook G4 that I purchased two years ago and it has plenty of space on the hard drive.

bobw probably did not make this point as emphatically as he could have. You cannot update developmental versions of MacOS X with release version updates. For this and many other reasons, you should never install a developmental version on your production hard drive. You will have to do as bobw suggested--reformat your hard drive and install the release version of MacOS X 10.4.

To make it even clearer: Someone "gave you" (illegally!!!) a pre-release build of Mac OS X 10.4. You shouldn't have access to it at all. You're illegally trying to use this development build as your operating system. The *ONLY* help we can give you here, and this can't be stressed enough, is that you should destroy any copies you have of the illegally acquired OS build and buy the retail version of Mac OS X 10.4.x. You could also use the Panther (10.3.x) discs which originally came with your computer and use the older OS instead and update to 10.5 when that comes out in Spring 2007. Because both the Tiger update and the 10.5 update will each cost you 129 USD, and Panther still works quite well indeed.
