Hi everyone,

I am a new mac user (my handle was crytpic so thought I'd clear that up). I got a friend's laptop with OS X on it. Problem is we can't Login. We've tried many passwords. The hint was no help.

Anyone know what I can do to get around the logon prompt? I am used to PC's where I'm used to re-installing/formatting/blue screens/etc. There is no boot disk. In fact I don't see a CD-Rom on this laptop. The laptop itself is a PowerBook G4...so far the only thing I like about is the way the apple logo lights up when I turn it on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me or reply. I would very much like to solve this problem for him.

this sounds more like a stolen laptop than a 'problem'. how to get around passwords is a topic that is not allowed on this forum. if your friend is truely the owner of the laptop and os x, he should have the password and/or the install disks and there should be no problem.
