OS X Find is really poor

Anyone else really dislike OS X "Find".

There's got to be something better. I got spoiled by using MacUser's FindPro. What a great little tool!! After the rapid search, you could copy, move, open, trash plus other options. Anyone know of anything similar to find files/items?

Thanks

So you don't know how you have renamed your files, or where you keep your stuff on your hard drive?

I presume you mean 'Finder'? If so, I love it. It's not perfect, but I prefer it to Windows Explorer. I think the reason I use Finder so much is because it's so easy to use. Just type into the active find box, and it searches as you type. Easy.

This reminds me of when Sherlock was introduced and everyone went bonkers about how horrid it was for finding stuff in the Finder. I don't think OS X's "Find" is that bad, but it is definately not the fastest at finding files for me. And it seems to dominate my computer while it is running a search. Looking forward to Tiger's better searching.

Find...? I questioned what he meant by Find. I said, if he meant Finder, and then continued. I didn't just assume he meant Finder.

With Sherlock/Find you can search for various parameters to find a file. You should try adding filters with the "+" sign. It might help you narrow down your searches and make them more responsive.

I would agree that Apple's 'Find' utility in the Finder is inadequate sometimes and certainly not fast. So, I found a nice little program called Locator on versiontracker:

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12404
http://www.sebastian-krauss.de/software/

that uses the command line 'locate' and 'grep' commands to find files. The only issue with using this program is that your 'daily' and 'weekly' maintenance scripts need to run regularly if you move files around frequently. This program is basically a GUI for the 'locate' and 'grep' commands. And IT IS FAST!!!
