OS X License question

I have an PowerBook G4, which of course shipped with an OS X DVD. So far so good. I have ordered an iMac G5 yesterday, which of course will also ship with an OS X DVD.

Now the question: I will have two Macs. And when Tiger comes out, I want to buy it naturally. When I have Tiger, can I install it on both Macs, or do I have to get another license?

I'm really confused about that...

You will need a licence for each Mac to upgrade. There is a family pack which includes 5 licences for $199 as far as I can remember.

exactly what tommo said.

also if i remember correctly, if you buy a computer up to a month before a new OS is released, you get a $20 upgrade (or something like that)

Just to add, $199 for a license to install on 5 computers is a really really good deal. A question about the family pack though. Is it alright for 5 friends to pool together $199 to get the family pack? They're not strictly family....

Apple Store - OS X Family Pack
* Family Pack Software License Agreement allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same household. By "household" we mean a person or persons sharing the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or condominium. This license does not extend to students who reside at a separate on-campus location or to business or commercial users.

Actually i was confused about this too, but then i came to a solution of just getting the Family Pack when tiger comes out. In AUD its actually cheaper than buying two seperate mac osx licenses. My sister and I are the only ones in the family who has a mac so i guess it works for us.

OK, thanks for all the answers guys! It came out to what I already thought that I would have to buy a Family Pack. I will do so when Tiger comes out, as the new G5 ships with OS X 10.3 obviously.

However, another short question. I have heard, that when I get a Mac 2 months before a new system release of Apple (which we all hope is going to be within the next two months), I could upgrade the Mac OS for just €35. I don't know if that's true though. If so, is there an option to get the Family Pack cheaper too?

Depends on when Apple will actually release the thing and whether they'll do such an update pricing for recently bought Macs and whether your Mac will be bought within that time-frame... You'll see. :)

About the 'friends' sharing a family package: Do NOT buy the family-pack OSX. It's only for people living in the same household. You'd break the license as much as if you'd only buy one license...

The two Macs belong to me and they are in the same household. So I think I'm pretty much sticking to the License then when I buy a Tiger family pack.
