OS X-No Printer Set Up Utility

Hey, I'm new here and after a quick search I saw some related posts, but thought I had better describe my exact problem here. Hope some kind soul(s) have some advice. Here goes, without getting too long-winded:

I'm on a G3 iMac running OS X 10.3.9, with an Epson Stylus Photo 780 attached. In the past I have occasionally had print jobs stall, but found a weird little fix.... open my Mail program and print a message, and this would kick-start the stalled jobs and get it running again. But last weekend, not long after doing some software updates, such as the latest Epson printer stuff (don't know if that's relevant), I found nothing would print. I need to delete several stalled jobs so I can print again, but I have no Print Status Monitor where I can see and delete jobs, nor a Printer Set Up Utility in Preferences (the button won't respond).

I've gathered from some research that I lost or never got this when I installed OS X, and that I may need to uninstall and then re-install the OS. Would this be the best or only way, or are there easier, less drastic options I can try? I have backed up about everything of importance to me, but will I lose EVERYTHING when I uninstall the OS? Will I have to reinstall all apps and reset settings and everything?

Thanks for any help you can offer,

Cam

You can try to use a program called Pacifist to extract the Printer Setup Utility from your OS X install disc, and simply place that in your Applications/Utilities folder.

I ran Pacifist on my OS X installer CDs, then I restarted, and tried to print. No luck. I also took a peek at System Preferences-Print-Set Up Printer.... but Set up printer button still did nothing. So still no Printer Set Up Utility or Print Status Monitor. Is something else missing? Or something else I need to do with this?

Someone suggested that maybe I am using printer driver updates that are newer than what my OS version can work well with. Does this make any sense, and is it possible? Might I need a slightly earlier version of printer driver than what I've got now?

Any other ideas? Thanks very much,

Cam

What happens if you open Printer Setup Utility directly from your Applications/Utilities folder?

And when you say you ran Pacifist, did you actually locate the Printer Setup Utility on your install disk, and drag it to your Applications/Utilities folder?
