i have an old imac and i was thinking about installing mac os x on my it. i just want to know if anyone had any difficulties after they had installed it? Like if it were slow?

what kind of iMac? give us the specifications (processor speed, memory, hard drive size) and we can help you, but with that we can't do much.
I would say it would run fine, but by no means will it be speedy. I run 10.2.6 on a 600ghz iMac with 256mb ram, and by todays standards that is pretty slow, but i can put up with it.

yes specs please.

i myself have an iMac 400 DV and OSX runs fine on it.

and i used to have an iMac 333 and that ran X ok, if a little slow...

memory helps though. both machines i just mentioned each have 300+ MB of memory.

Slot loading macs are fine with OSX, lowest spec models are slow but it still works.
Tray loading macs can't handle it.

I have the same iMac as Shifting, 400 Mhz slot-loading iMac DV+ Graphite (I wish Apple would call it something like that, they just call it an iMac) and I have OS X on it. It's slow, but it's very stable. (I don't use it very often, though, because all the programs I use work better or only in 9.)

incorrect. the 333 iMac i mentioned in my previous post is a tray loader, and it can "handle" X just fine. like i said, it's a tad slow, but it works...

Hehe... I'm still running 10.2.6 on a 300 MHz machine and it dosen't seem to slow for me (maybe I'm just patient). Guess I should upgrade sometime soon...

My dad is thinking of getting OS 10.2 for his 400 mhz iMac DV. It's good to see positive experiences with OSX on some semi-aged computers. Anybody else have any experience with a similar settup?

He's counting on me to make a decision for him on this one, so I don't want to get into something sticky :)
