OS X Server question

Dumb question coming up...can you run apps in X Server? For example, I want to turn my fake server (an iMac with file sharing turned on) into a true server cuz I'm sick and tired of standard OS X's complete crap permissions system that simply does not cooperate...anyway, that's another story. The glitch is that the iMac (only a G3 400) needs to run Retrospect and some scanner software. I think I just answered my own question. There's no way Apple would release a server OS that wouldn't let you run backup software. Duh.

What about other apps? Can OS X Server essentially run any app?

Everything OS X can OS X Server can do. Server just has a lot of extra software preinstalled so you can setup a server easily. You can run Photoshop and use your scanner or anything else.
