OS X Server to Desktop mode/setting?

Hello,

First post here so let's hope I can find something out!

About a year ago I made a change on a Mac OS X Server (10.5) to allow it to share USB printers. This was an important requirement at the time. Now to do this I had to login as the root account and change a preference, this caused the server to be treated as a desktop so none of the server features worked after that.

Has anybody managed to do this before? Or do they know what I need to do to get the server mode back again? I can always use the base install CD's but I'd like to understand what has been done here.

Many thanks

Can you be more specific with the problem?

It is perfectly normal to login to the desktop. You have to login to do anything locally. Services should run independantly. You should be able to see what services are running using the admin tool.

What version are you running? How is the server configured? (simple, advanced,...?) What services are not running properly?
