OS X volume keys on non-extended keyboards

I know similar questions to this one have been discussed here before, but each one seems to have a different perspective. My confusion regarding os x function keys is this: is it possible to assign volume up, down and mute to any of the regular 1-15 fkeys, instead of the volume keys present on standard extended usb keyboards? Or, alternatively, can the volume keys be found anywhere else on older keyboards?

My reason for asking is that the keyboard that came with my new imac is ruined, and I'd like the volume stuff to work on my old macally ikey keyboard. The eject and brightness functions are both avaliable on f12, f13 and f14, respectively.

Unfortunately, none of those otherwise so excellent programs can emulate the sound function. But thanks anyways!

I would LOVE to know that too. I have a Griffin iMate hooked up and it only works ever once and a while. I'd LOVE to control the volume with page up or page down or f9

You know, I think rather a lot of people would want to know. I've seen *many* questions about configuring keyboard and similar topiks that could all have been answered if there just was a way to konfigure the keyboard. Now I know from apples techbase that there a keyboard mapper files. If I could just find them, and find a way to edit them, perhaps they would yield the possibility to configure the volume keys...
