OS X Window Focus Behavior

I just read a question somewhere else about changing OSX's window focus behavior. They had a problem when doing repeatative tasks in programs such as GIMP, when they had to repeatedly drag and drop on a window that was in the background. They had to re-click the bg window first.

Does anyone now how to customize this behavior in order to drag and drop onto a window that is not in focus??

However, many applications will accept dragged and dropped items onto their 'Finder' and / or 'Dock' based icons.
