Did anyone ever have this problem?

I'd start my Mac and OS X doesn't start up. INSTEAD OS 9 Started up like it used to!

After navigating around for quite awhile trying to find help on the net, or even find out HOW OS X was booting I re-ran the OS X 10.1 update (Like i was updgrading) and then everything was ok. It even kept my old user account (the one I set up orignally before this problem)

I wouldnt sweat it but its happened again for the second time.

Any ideas?

Well it happened again.

I was having a bunch of problems not being able to find a file. So I tried logging into a terminal window. But all I got was the Welcome to darwin message followed by a message saying [Process complete] but it wouldnt let me do anything

Sooooo I figured to reboot. When it cam back up it was in macOs 9.2 !!! This makes the 3rd time, and I've only had OS X for 3 weeks or so now.

Anyone got even an idea or where i can go to look for some help on this? (I couldnt find anything on Macs website archive)

in the System Preferences, under start up disks....make sure you select Mac OS X.
if you are in Mac OS 9 then go to the control panel "Start Up Disk" control panel and make sure you select Mac OS X.

WOW! Thanks! :D
I new it had to be something really simple!

Once I got back into osX I opened the startdisk preference and locked the option.

Is there a possible reason that it keep changing?

I've noticed sometimes if you force a reboot during a kernal panic or similar it'll reset it back to OS 9. Also, if you zap your pram then it'll probably revert back to 9.

I believe you can also hold down option during startup for a list of bootable devices/partitions.
