We have OS9 and OSX clients hooked up to an OS9 file server. The OSX clients keep getting kicked off the server periodically but the OS9 clients are fine. It's a pain to keep logging on throughout the day. I've called apple and they said they know of no settings that automatically disconnect inactive network connections. I fould a post on this forum that dealt with the same problem and the solution was to turn off the TCP/IP sharing option - but when we did this we could not access the file server at all.
