this question has been addresses but not answered, i use logic7 express and ive reistalled my os 3 times , cause my midi driver in osx will dissapear , i dont know how this happens but i know when it does cause when i go to load logic it will load everthing to open up and when it goes to check the midi drivers, a timeout ot timer activity, check other applications using timer or midi(code)0 happens..i go to disk utilities and click on the audio midi setup and sometimes it just crashes and when the window does open in audio midi setup it shows no drivers at all, so i cant use any midi in any program i have.. this has happen to me 3 times and ive had to install the whole OS everytime, it works for a while and suddenly it just dissapears and wont load my audio apps..can someone tell me what the F is going on...

HI,

I am about to pitch my OS 10.3.9 out the door. I am going nuts. I found your question regarding midi setup crashes and audio does not play. I have exactly the same issues.

Can you help?

Craig

go to your library/audio/midi driver and check if you have an m-audio firewire410 driver or any m-audio driver delete that driver, for some reason it affects the DAC driver, i dont know why but it works..

I am not sure how to find out what MIDI version I am using. I suspect it is not the MIDI driver at all. After a few days of going back and forth between OS 9 and X my entire system crashes. When I restart I must hold down the shift key or it will not start. Once I get up again I have no sound. If I reinstall OS X all is OK again. Is OS 9 corrupting the driver? I have installed OS X onto a new drive thinking my drive might be going out. I will live like this for a while and see what happens. As a side note when I reinstalled I only installed 10.3 not 10.3.9. Maybe that will make a difference.

Thanks for writing back.

Craig

I had this problem whilst using 10.3.9, the drivers would vanish after every software update. However, i use an external audio interface and ext midi interface and my problem was cured by re-installing the drivers. If you are running core audio through 'Built-in' audio then i guess you cant fix it by re-installing drivers so maybe try installing some other au inteface drivers to give core audio a slap round the face, so to speak. As an experiment why not try downloading and installing the m-audio firewire 410 drivers (these are the ones that worked for me whilst using that unit) I know someone here mentioned deleting them if they were present but if they arent already then it might help us troubleshoot.

You can find them here: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do...4107998b11119907053a313&o=Mac+OS+10.3.9&f=513

This might seem like a weird thing to do but maybe its worth a try and can certainly do no wrong...it is sure as hell quicker than re-installing panther. I believe the problem with core audio comes from the 10.3.9 update (someone correct me if im wrong) so installing the m-audio drivers should in effect bring core audio back online and give you the option of selecting an audio output in the audio/midi setup.

This issue has been resolved under Tiger, 10.4.4 working perfectly here and has been all along. Maybe its time to upgrade....

Another thing you should ideally have installed is the apple pro app update 3.1 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplicationsupport31macosx104.html)

This increases overall stabilty in Apples pro apps and should be installed ideally when using Logic 7.

Let me know how you get on or feel free to email me direct if you have any further questions... tom at goldenscan dot com
