OSX drivers for Canon Fiery RIPs/ Canon CLC700 colour copier?

Is anyone aware of a driver or drivers to enable printing to a Fiery RIP box? We use a Fiery 5000 RIP box in our studio to print to our Canon CLC700 colour laser copier, and the lack of a suitable driver is the only thing preventing us moving the studio to OSX. I'm really looking for something that retains my access to as many of the features as possible.

I used to work with EFI products. I think that all they require is a PPD file installed in the proper place: /library/printers/ppd/contents/resources/en.lproj

I don't know much about the canon, but it should also be a matter of dropping the PPD in the right place.

PS>I assume that you are not looking to use the special utilities that come with the EFI box.
PPS>You should also be able to use the web interface to the EFI box from OSX. I have not tried it since I stopped working on these products by the time OSX came out.

I guess he IS actually looking for some level of control over the Fiery RIP, as printing to the RIP and the CLC is actually no problem at all. Been doing that for some time now - but the RIPs are controlled by cheapo PCs at the service bureaus I work with. (And I couldn't care less as long as I don't have to support those machines.)

And yes, you could use the web interface, although I've never seen anyone using it, which probably means it's not worth much.

Just before I stopped working with those products, the web interface was totally revamped and had a fair amount of functionality (including some drag and drop stuff). You might be pleasantly surprised.

If I recall, there 3 utilities, the Fiery Spooler (status, job reordering and a few other functions - like rebooting the syste), the fiery downloaded (which I never used since in OS 9 you could drag the files to the desktop printer - does this work on OSX?) *long pause*

I don't remember what the third utility was.... hmm maybe a print calibrator... don't know... it must have been really memorable whatever it was. There was also a photoshop plugin for scanning from the copier. That seemed totally pointless to me...

I don't know, it's been a while...

Yes, I am looking for a way to access all the features normally accessible when using the Fiery PPD. Hopefully using the OS9 PPD in OSX (as I have been told can be done in some cases), will allow this. I will have to test this to find out. Fingers crossed.

That said, it is still disappointing that Fiery have not yet released OSX native support for their hardware, when even our ancient Xanté Accell-e-writer 8300 has OSX drivers available.

Many thanks to all those who are contributing to this discussion. The sooner I can move our studio to OSX, the happier I will be. :D

the PPD a lone will be pretty easy, just drop it in the folder I mentioned above and it will be available in the Print Center.
