Osx Unable to Mount Home Folders Over a 10 Base T Switch

We have OSX Tiger running on G4 and G5 machines. These workstations are setup to log into a OSX Server LDAP database. The machines in one particular area on the network are connected through a 10 base T Switch and cannot mount their home folders. As soon as I move the machine into a 10/100 switch I can mount the home folders. The switches are in good working order. Any ideas? Does the 10/100/1000 ethernet card fail some protocols like AFP over slower connections?

Any advice would be welcome.
