Other DeskJet 3845 Driver?

I've downloaded and installed the DeskJet 3845 Driver for Mac OS X from HP, but every time I print something the whole system "locks up" for about 10 seconds while it is sending the document to the printer (Yes, it even does it when I only have Safari running.). Is there anything I can to do make this faster or another non-hp driver?

Have you tried changing to the more generic HP drivers that came with OS X? (cups?)

I've heard of CUPS (Common Unix Print System). I was wondering how I would go about using this.

Well I figured out how to get to CUPS. How would I tell Mac to print with CUPS everytime?

BTW - Printing the test page worked like a charm

Well I figured out how to print directly to CUPS, but it still shows that $%& dialog that slows down the computer. It says "Processing" "Printing" etc.... with the progress bar. What I dont get is at school we have HP LaserJets and there is never one 'progress' window appearing. The only thing that shows up (which is fine with me BTW) is the one that says "Processing Page 1", etc... That one is fine, it's the HP thing that launches after that. Even when printing from CUPS.
