"Out of Scan Range" with OS 10.2 -- help!!

I'm using a 17" Sony Multiscan CRT monitor. It works just fine with OS 9.2. However, out of the blue, whenever I now try starting up my G4 with 10.2, right as the gray background goes to blue, I get an "out of scan range" warning. I can't proceed at all, and end up having to restart with 9.2. I miss my Jaguar!

Any thoughts on the problem? Are there any 10.2 system files I could try deleting/moving to "reset" the preferences that are causing this problem?

Your OS X is trying to boot up with a screen resolution that your screen does not support. And, because you cannot see the screen to change the screen resolution, you are screwed.....

well, actually, you are not..... if you hold down SHIFT as you start up in OS X, it turns out it will boot into a regular screen resolution... fix it... and you're set.
