overclocked PowerMac to Dual 1,67

I would disagree. You can't over-clock a processor if it was not fabbed for higher speeds, and you can see this can be really unstable. Some individual processors are likely to allow some serious over-clocking like this. I have read reports where overclocking can go up to around 50% on some samples (can you say 'liquid cooling?) Not coming to MOT's defense exactly, but the only way to do this is to add some serious cooling (watch out if the fan(s) happen to quit)

I have no overclocking experiences in macs, but as you can see, I managed to overclock a P4 1,6 to 2,6Ghz. This is 62%. I didn't add any additional cooling and the system is working for more than 2 years almost by now. Maybe the processor was actually a regular 2,6 which got a lower multiplicator. I really don't know. However, in those days, there were 2,6Ghz P4 out as well. I think it's a difference to buy highend model and overclock that one. Such CPUs tend to be pretty much at the max possible clock. That's why the Dual 1,67GHz really surprised me.
Anyway, isn't there any slowdown for Motorola CPUs, once the temp is going too high? Just to prevent serious damanges from the heat.. Don't want the lifetime of my G4 1Ghz to be dependant on the small fan in here.

Whatever happened to the person/people who overclocked a P4 to 5 Ghz? Now that, stable and working, I would love to see on a Mac.

Just remember, a FSB designed for a 3 Ghz P4 (or any CPU) isn't going to be able to keep up the data to a 5ghz CPU. Remember when Apple added heaps of L3 Cache to the G4s? Same thing. a 167Mhz bus with a 1.42 ghz cpu. its like a 10 litre v8 with a VW Bug fuel pump. It isn't gonna be pretty.

I can't find the article, but it was on The Register some months ago. Apparently there's a BUG in Windows that makes it so it doesn't properly identify CPU frequencies pass 4 GHz. After 4.x GHz, the thing starts back from zero.

The CPU should still function properly (and hopefully at the correct speed) it's just that the OS doesn't know what it really is.

A bug in Windows? The OS doesn't know what's going on? What's the world coming to? :D ::ha::
