Does anyone know how to overclock a iBook using open firmware? I don't want to open up my iBook and start messing around with the resistors. Is there any way I can do this?
Do you really want to do this? I am asking myself, if the risc to heat up and mess up with your Baby is worth to get just a VERY less performance increase? I would rather max out the ram.
I did max out the ram. (640mb) I just want it to go a bit faster. I know there's a open firmware hack for the G4 I was trying to find a hack for the G3. Or just something to up the bus speed on my iBook.
While we're on the subject:
I've just ordered a new 1GHz 15" aBook. Other than the CPU, it seems to be the identical twin to the 1,25GHz version. Does this include cooling? Would overclocking this baby 250MHz really put anything at risk?
I am not sure, if your bus speed is independent on the other speeds as well, such as agp-clock. In worst case raising the bus will affect many other components and the risc of damaging something is even higher. It would be more interesting to just raise the multiplier for the cpu. But than again: is it worth? How much will you be able to get? Let's say 100Mhz (if at all). Do you think this will speed up anything really much? Your G3 has a rage 8mb, right? This is probably the weakest part in your ibook and limiting the systems speed.
I would leave it, if you ask me...
voice, you mean the 1,25 has just a higher clock, but no differences what so ever?
I can't imagine they used a different cooling-system in the entry-albook 15'' than the 1,25Ghz one. So, if they are the same, it should be possible to overclock, but ... I hate overclocking a perfectly running system!
You got a point there...and I've always squeezed more from my Macs than others have theirs since I tend to sacrifice eye-candy like magnified dock and such...
I'll think about it when it gets sluggish, right now it just has to get here...it's not gone from Taiwan to Luxembourg to the Netherlands...with luck it might reach me by the end of the week...
