Oversaturation

Uber Nothing
Somebody else has to have noticed this.

In the applications iPhoto and Preview, photos come out way too saturated. In most cases, they look better than usual, but that's not what I'm going for. I need to know what my picture actually looks like before I send it off somewhere. This goes the same for an Illustrator web export taken into either iPhoto or Preview... the color is just off.

Anybody noticed this, or know of a fix? I like the applications and would much rather fix the problem than work around it.

images typically have an embedded color profile and if they don't most apps have a setting to 1) read as is or 2) convert to working profile. iPhoto and Preview are very non specific apps set up for general use. Most likely what is happening is that the color profile is being converted when the file is opened up in one of these apps. If available try opening the file with Photoshop or some other app where you can manipulate the color profile and the reopen these versions of the original image in Preview or iPhoto to see the variations. Then choose which color profile settings would work best to achieve your desired end results.
