Panasonic GS55 Dv camera will not conect

I have just upgraded to a Intel mac from a PPC mini. My Panasonic GS55 DV camcorder worked fine with the PPC mini using Imovie 06 but will not connect to the new Intel in Imovie 06. The firewire connection is Ok as i can connect to my external hard drive. I have installed Imovie again but i am still unable to connect the camcorder
