panther and firmware update

I'm trying to install Panther on a 500mhz imac that is running on 10.2.8 build 6R73, but instal require me to udate firmware.

Well i'd like to ... but I can't find how to know what firmware I'm curently using and I can't find any update to do. All updates have been made with software update and imac was running (nearly) fine on 10.2.8.

Only firmware I find are to be made with OS9, but I don't have any OS 9 on this machine for so long.

Any idea ?

You'll have to install Open Firmware 4.1.7, I believe, which can be found in Apple's Support section of their website.

And yes, you need to boot into OS 9 to get this to work. So start digging for your old 9 discs, or borrow it from a friend.
