panther firewall problem

With Jaguar, I had my firewall turned on all the time. When I upgraded it to Panther, firewall selection was turned off and displayed a message "other firewall software is running on your computer" I just cannot do anything about it. (I had the same problem with my other powermac. When I did a clean install, the problem disappeared.)

Could you guys give me some help? I want to be able to have firewall turned on...
 
Have you ever run NetBarrier or a similar program? This happened to me when I got NetBarrier. I decided I didn't like it so I threw it away, but I got the problem you're having.

Anyway, search for some NetBarrier (or whatever program you may have used) preference files and throw them all away. That did it for me anyway.

I found a solution in apple discussion forum. I was supposed to type the following command:
sudo ipfw flush

Then it just worked... have no idea what that is though..
