Panther installation problem

I just installed Panther on my iMac, which was perfectly happy running Jaguar. Of course now my iMac is unhappy. Upon restart it comes up with
the error message "The application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a shared library error". Then when I try to launch almost any application such as Safari or Mail, the application briefly launches and then crashes. any advice?
 
Did you make a fresh panther installation or did you update? I would rather reinstall and make sure it's a fresh installation. If possible, try to erase the disc even or at least repair all permissions of the existing os..
 
If you go to Utilities>Disk Utility and run repair permissions, those apps will open properly.
