Well, at least that's my dream. Like if they gave you the ability to turn off everything that's slow about osx(which is just about everything) and live the fast and snappy ilife again.

and it still uses the unix technology.... so if an app freezes you can switch to another and use that....and it'll have the platinum look, and pixel icons......
ahhhh....that would be the greatest...

Ah... that brings me back to the good ol' days, when all you needed to make an icon was a free copy of ResEdit and some imagination.... nowadays, you need frickin' Photoshop and some other app, and blah...

I remember when 8.6 came out...... or was it 8.5...... whichever one u had to purchase..... my dad got it right away, and installed it on his 7600.....ahhh i remember those days.....
Then we didn't get os 9, until he got the blue and white G3.....that came with 9, which he put on the 7600. I miss os 9 kind of.....

Man, your sig says you have a PM G4 DP 1Ghz with DDRAM and X is heavy for you...
mmmm... what's going on with Apple programmers????
If X isn't snappy in your mac, what we neen to run that thing???

scott: There's a lot I like about osx, and all things considered, it blows OS9 out of the water. But every day at work, I run a G4 450MHz with 768MB ram OS9.2 and still that machine is snappier then my home dual monster. This is an old debate that has made its rounds here many times.

It's a personal preference. I like that "snappitude" of OS9.

you kno, sometimes i like to put in the platinum theme on my comp.... for old times sake. I havent booted into 9 for half a year now though....

yea, I like OS 9!!!... I thing you are misunderstood me... :(
(I know that my english is terrific...) :p
I tring to say that OS X is toooo heavy... even for your Mac
i like that snappynes of OS 9 too!!!

I run OS X on a 333mhz and 400mhz and they seem to be pretty snappy. Not lightening fast but what do i expect from 4-5 yr old iMacs. I can still have photoshop, itunes, and dreamweaver open.

However, I am expecting it to run nice and fast on my soon to come iBook.

I run OS X on a 600mhz PowerPC G3 and it seems to be pretty snappy. Actually it's not too good.

I've found a annoying delay switching from one app to photoshop 7... browsing the web I discovered that it is a memory manager issue...
anyone out there have this problem...
basically when you are in other app and switch to photoshop, (the pallets take too long to refresh an the beech ball appears...)

You're not alone. I have the same problem, and unfortunately, you better get used to it. I started a thread about that a while ago, it's just the way it is in OSX. I know it's hard to get used to.

do you have the same problem in your G4?
I can't believe it!!!

I think that it is a fine tuning code matter that will be solved in futures versions of X...
wait until panther arrives, and cross the fingers :)
