panther labels - just the folder please?

Is there a way I can just color a folder in panther? I don't want the label to make the text a color and not the folder. Is there a place where I can get folder icons to replace the ones I have so I can visually see a folder's differerence? I really don't like panther labels, or it should be an option to color the folder. I use the list view a lot and labeled text of files and folders looks like a selected item. I just want a colored folder or to change the icon of the folder, not the text.
I could also make changes myself with photoshop if someone tells me how to get ahold of the icon in the "get info" box and what file format I would use to save the changed folder.
Any help would be appreciated. I have done some searches but don't find anything.

in finder, choose the folder. "get info" (apple-i) >

then choose an icon file (if you dont have any extra icons, get e.g. from http://www.xicons.com/ a lot of free icons for mac) > (in finder) "get info" of the file (apple-i from that icon too) >

then, choose the picture in the info of the icon (apple-c) > paste (apple-v) it to the other folders folder picture in its info window. done :)

you can have like simple, similar, different color folder images or just any kind of image for any folder you like, that way they are faster to find.
