hi all did anyone of you try to install Panther 10.3 i have build (7b85) on a Beige G3 266 PM??? i tryed it and it always comes with kernel panic message, the disc is working couse i can start on my G4 machine with these CD's and i have 512 MB Ram also tryed it with the original 64MB ram module only, but that does not change anything, and i pulled out all the cards i had in that machine and all additional peripherialls, that did not change either anything at all hrmm so im asking you did anybody install it successfully? on that machine?
would be nice to get an answer, thank you in a advance, btw. i know that there will be soon a new version of XPostFacto, wich wil maybe allow that, but that will take a while and i want to install that Build (7b85)

thank you in advance :)

If you mean a beige G3 266 (I thinks there is only a beige one) then your out of luck for now there not on the supported list since that states you need built in USB and the beige machines don't have that.
It does work on the original iMac though.
I know because I have two of them and they both have been on Panther (one still is the other is now running 10.2.8 for test purposes)

Yeah it is a Beige G3 266 and there is no built-in USB port, but i also dont have any USB-Cards at the moment

Shadow: You're definitely out of luck. That machine is part of the newest unsupported line of machines... Maybe there will be some or other way with third party help, but basically: 10.2.8 is the latest version of Mac OS X that will run on beige G3s.

Installing a USB card will not help, Panther will not run on a system that does not have USB on the logic board (built-in), so any iMac can work, a biege G3 cannot (unless the folks at XPostFacto figure out a work around, which might happen???)

New or modified firmware, perhaps...

I'd be interested to see if anyone gets this working, as I might try installing Panther on this computer if it does.

Ryan Rempel is back ;)

From http://www.macsales.com/ :

XPostFacto does not work with Panther yet (i.e. Mac OS X 10.3), but I am working on it (both for the models that XPostFacto currently supports, and for the Beige G3 and "Wallstreet" Powerbooks). It is unlikely that I will have Panther support ready on the day Panther ships. The reason is that Apple is not releasing the Darwin source code for Panther (which XPostFacto relies on) until then. But I do not expect a long delay after that.

Let's hope that's true :)
